Holding On To The Beautiful & Expansive Unknown
This summer we announced to the team that I am going to be transitioning out of my role as Vice President of Marketing at Onsite and I am in the early stages of dreaming about my next career move. While it’s hard to walk away from a company, a team, and a vision that I love, I feel peaceful that it is time for a new adventure.
It's been an incredible journey with Onsite. Here are a few of the things I've learned along the way:
1. We don't burn out from the weight of responsibility we carry but by how we carry our weight of responsibility.
High functioning leaders ALWAYS carry heavy loads, but the ones that stay in it for the long haul carry them with a healthy and open posture. They know what and how to let go. They are collaborative, curious, and clear-headed. Most importantly, they have an identity grounded in who they are not what they do.
2. We all have dreams that deserve to be realized.
As someone whose innate gifting is "bringing vision to life" and "catalyzing movements", I spent too much of my life staying busy, building other people's dreams, and ignoring what was within myself. For me, the dream of motherhood was something I realized only because of "the work" I did during Onsite's Living Centered Program. During that week-long therapeutic group experience, I began to see how much of myself I'd sacrificed for other people and gained skills to reconnect with who I am and what I wanted from life. There is no greater gift to walk away with!
3. As Parker Palmer says, “Each time a door closes, the rest of the world opens up.”
The greatest privilege during my time at Onsite was hearing the hard-earned stories of our alums who had weathered so much -- trauma, pain, transition -- and found peace, healing, and growth on the other side. Their testimonies serve as a reminder that the only way out is through, and that we must keep trudging through the seemingly never-ending ups and downs of life, trusting in the future that lies ahead.
As I begin to watch this door close, I am holding on to the beautiful and expansive unknown. Thanks for following along!
